When A Tree Falls in the Woods

We had one heck of a week here in Augusta, GA. An ice storm as we have never experienced brought things to a screeching halt.  Schools, businesses, stores, the entire city shut down for 3 days. The cleanup has just begun.

And on Friday we had an earthquake.
(There have been so many locust comments I’ve lost count.)

I could write a hundred stories about the beauty of it, the sounds, the responders, the neighbors, the moments by candlelight with family, and those long nights without power. There was a whole bunch of beautiful and brutal all wrapped up.  (“Brutiful” as Glennon Doyle calls it…)

But  I ultimately chose  to share about community and you’ll find it over here today at Outside the City Gate.
There is a book giveaway with my post over there.
I chose Undaunted by Christine Caine.  I read it over a year ago and it inspired me to do a lot of things, one of them being build this blog.  Christine has a way of calling us TO our calling. You can enter to win a copy that I’ll ship straight to you by commenting on the post. But if you don’t win~ still read?  You won’t be sorry.

Here’s one of my favorite quotes (although my book is so highlighted, HOW do I pick one?):

“Why didn’t you come sooner?
I offered them no excuses that day, but I did know that there were reasons. Reasons that, when we hear God’s call, when we feel that gentle (or not so gentle) urging of God’s Spirit for us to make a bold step, take a risk, serve others, save a life, commit – we so often hold back.
It’s because we don’t feel empowered.
We don’t feel qualified.
We think we lack the courage, the strength, the wisdom, the money, the experience, the education, the organization, the backing.
We feel like Moses…
Not me, God. I’m afraid. Weak. Poor. Stupid.
Unqualified.
Daunted….
It has never been my desire to be daunted, to be afraid, to be unable to respond to God’s call.”
