What Love Looks Like

I’ve written words.  Lots of words recently.  But none have captured what love really looks like. I have been re-reading The Great Gatsby and it’s conjured up all those questions I battled with the first time I read it.  About the “American Dream” and how we continually try to fill the God-sized hole in our hearts with people and things and just more. And how the wanting more just ends up emptying us.

You see I’ve been thinking about the stories we have all read, the movies we watch, and how love “looks” on the outside. All romantic and beautiful.  How we have been duped ever since Cinderella’s shoe got lost that love was to be found in the eyes of a handsome prince or being surrounded by shiny things in a big mansion.  Asking God to turn our pumpkins into beautiful coaches and our rags into a dress fit for the ball. Comfortable.

When I saw this video below?  I stopped writing. Because this  is what love looks like.
And the real example of loving those in our lives?  Our spouses, our parents, children, our friends…..all crippled by life?  God.

God loves us just like this.
He sees beauty behind our brokenness.
He brushes our teeth, fixes our hair, places a crown on our head, and pedals.

I hope it reminds you.  And inspires us all to love.  REALLY love.  Like this.
Like HIM.
