Still Saturday

My son breaks the silence with the strums of his guitar on this Holy Saturday morning.

The mountain peaks are meeting the sky just behind him. But my mind is on the tomb. Coffee in hand, the sun is rising beautiful. I crave a quiet day.

Jesus died yesterday, on Good Friday. We are in the in-between now. Saturday drags like silent, unmoving darkness.  After Christ’s anguish…., His chosen crawling to the cross, the cry, the calling, and the collapse…..He CHOSE a quiet tomb.

And what I know about quiet is that it doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Often it is the sound of a miracle in the making.

I glance the tree lines and eavesdrop on my son’s music drifting.  On this Good Saturday morning that is just rising from darkness I remember:

“He sent Him to come to bestow on us a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. So that we might be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. ”        ~Isaiah 61:3

Rest peaceful in the quiet today.

Let the stillness settle in the knowledge that miracles are coming.

Below are the words connected to the chords my blue jean boy plays.

Claim them beloveds.

By Your Side by Tenth Avenue North

“Why are you striving these days
Why are you trying to earn grace
Why are you crying
Let me lift up your face Just don’t turn away
Why are you looking for love
Why are you still searching As if I’m not enough
To where will you go child Tell me where will you run
To where will you run
‘Cause I’ll be by your side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don’t fight these hands that are holding you My hands are holding you
Look at these hands at my side
They swallowed the grave on that night
When I drank the world’s sin So I could carry you in
And give you life I want to give you life
And I’ll be by your side wherever you fall In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don’t fight these hands that are holding you My hands are holding you
‘Cause I, I love you I want you to know That I, yeah I’ll love you I’ll never let you go, no, no. . .
